When Should You Contact A Removal Company?

You should hire a moving firm at least 4-6 weeks before your intended move date. However, this is only a guideline, and you can plan your move much farther ahead of time or even at the last minute if absolutely necessary.

A period of 4-6 weeks is ideal because you will need to:

  • Make arrangements for a pre-move consultation (home survey)
  • Get a quotation and review it
  • Compare quotes and make any necessary changes.
  • Finalize any arrangements

Leaving plenty of time means you won't have to rush and organize everything at the last minute, which is ideal because there can be many other things going on as a move date approaches, especially if you're buying and selling a home. When you hire a removal firm ahead of time, you can concentrate on other things while your mover handles the physical logistics.

Why plan ahead of time?

During peak seasons, removal businesses can become fully booked months in advance.

If you're moving during a busy season, such as the summer, a school holiday, the end of the month, or on a Friday, contact the removal company as soon as possible. These are busy times, so reserving ahead provides you a higher chance of getting a good deal and availability with your preferred mover.

What do I need to know above my move before hiring a removals company?

Once you're convinced that the objects you want to transfer won't change substantially (or can at least point out what won't), you may schedule a survey. Customers frequently contact us several months prior to their move.

When I don't know where I'm going, how do I schedule a moving company?

We can still conduct a survey if you don't know your final destination address, but we may only be able to provide you with a suggested price for your estimate, which we can then assess once you know the specifics of your new house.

If you're transitioning between residences, don't forget to inquire about storage options with your mover.

Is it possible to acquire a quote based on my tentative relocation dates?

Yes! We can provide a quote based on open or tentative dates, but keep in mind that prices are typically valid for moves within 28 days unless otherwise negotiated in advance.

I'm looking for a moving company, however, I'm moving on short notice...

Don't worry if you don't have much time or if things go faster than you anticipated; some movers will still be able to assist you. Our flexible resources, for example, allow us to readily help with last-minute moves at I Like To Move It Removals.

Suppose you're planning to move during a peak period (such as school holidays, especially during the summer, and the last Friday of the month). In that case, it's a good idea to make your arrangements as soon as possible, as increased demand means movers may be unavailable and prices may be higher if you wait until the last minute.
